How to Apply for a Petrol Card Online and Use UPI Credit Cards for Easy EMI Payments

Sam BensonBy Sam BensonApril 24, 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Petrol credit cards allow you to pay for fuel purchases on EMI at petrol pumps, making it easier to manage your automotive expenses. UPI-enabled credit cards further simplify online payments and money transfers for servicing your EMIs. Here is a step-by-step guide to applying online for a petrol credit card and using UPI credit cards for seamless payments:

Steps to Apply for Petrol Credit Cards

Below are some of the simple steps to apply for petrol card online:

1. Finding the Right Petrol Credit Card

Research petrol credit cards from leading banks that offer fuel surcharge waivers, cashbacks, and loyalty points on fuel purchases. Compare joining fees, annual fees, interest rates, credit limits, billing cycles, reward points policies, etc., across cards to identify the best one for your needs and eligibility.

2. Online Application Process

Reputable bank websites feature an easy online application process for new credit cards. The form captures basic personal and financial details like name, date of birth, PAN, income proof, existing loans, etc., to determine your creditworthiness for approval.

Ensure all information entered matches your KYC documents for smooth processing. Application status is communicated via email and SMS.

3. Uploading KYC Documents

While applying online, you may need to upload scanned copies of KYC documents like identity proof, address proof, passport-size photo, income statements etc., as per the bank’s criteria. Ensure the scans are clear and legible for the verification process. Also, save copies to respond promptly if the bank seeks any additional documents from you to process your application.

4. Tracking Application Status

Post-applying, track the status of your credit card approval process through the bank’s online portal or via the provided application reference number. It generally takes 7-15 working days for approval or rejection, along with conveying the credit limit and other applicable terms. Delayed processing could mean additional documents being sought by the bank for re-evaluation.

5. Activating Your New Card

Once approved, you will receive your new petrol credit card by courier. Call the 24×7 customer care number on the card’s welcome letter to activate it for first use. You may need to validate certain identification details for authentication during activation. Do not forget this crucial first step before attempting card usage to avoid transaction declines.

6. Setting Up Your UPI Handle

To pay your monthly credit card bills via UPI, first set up a VPA (virtual payment address) to handle your credit card account through your bank’s mobile app or net banking. Add this VPA linked to your credit card number as a bank account in your preferred UPI app like BHIM, Google Pay, etc.

7. Making Card Payments via UPI

When your monthly petrol credit card bill is due, open your UPI app and select money transfer to the saved VPA handle linked to your card. Authorise payment by entering your UPI PIN. The credit card bill amount will be instantly debited from your linked bank account without the hassles of remembering card details repeatedly.

8. UPI for Petrol Credit Card EMIs

If you have opted to convert certain expensive fuel bills into EMIs, UPI can simplify repaying them every month with minimum due amounts. Just transfer the specified EMI amount from UPI to the card’s VPA handle set earlier as per the repayment schedule. UPI enables quicker processing of EMI credit card payments.

Conclusion

Applying online for a petrol credit card is quick and convenient. Once approved and activated, it lets you pay for high fuel bills in EMIs and avail of other savings on petrol purchases. Integrating digital payments like UPI to manage your monthly card bills and repay fuel EMIs seamlessly optimises convenience further. Thus, the right petrol card combined with UPI payments equips you to take control of spiralling automotive expenses.

Carefully compare cards as per eligibility and apply digitally for faster approval. Activate it promptly and integrate UPI seamlessly to maximize fuel savings every time you tank up your vehicle.
